Yonghagugok Valley is one of the prime examples that represent Woraksan National Park alongside Songgye Valley. With its high mountain and deep valleys, Yonghagugok Valley was formerly a place visited by only those who knew about it, but with the advancement in transportation, the valley has become one of the most prominent destinations for tourists.
Ages ago, it is told that a scholar stumbled upon this valley and marveled at what the sky and the earth kept secret. Yongha Valley is divided into Yonghagol Valley and Sumundonggol Valley.
The indescribable beauty of the valley has been compacted into the nine unexplored sites in Yonghagol Valley. As such, Yonghagol Valley began to be called Yonghagugok Valley. Around the end of the Joseon era, a man named Park Hui Seon stayed in the valley. He chose nine locations and marked them with inscriptions, making them known to the world. Each locations feature inscriptions that complement the sights, taken from the poem “Nine Famous Valleys of Mui.”
Although it is somewhat of a shame to see that the nine locations are different depending on who chose them, it also shows that the valley offers a copious amount of beautiful scenery. The Sumun-dong Falls, Sugogyongdam Falls, and Byeongpung Falls of Sumundonggol Valley offer beauty that does not fall behind that of Yonghagugok Valley. Suryeomseondae Heights, located at the top of Yeongbong Trail above Sinreuksa Temple, boasts a unique type of beauty.
