Goegokseongbyeok-Trail

Goegokseongbyeok-Trail starts from Oksunbong Rest Area, passes Goegok-ri and Dabul-ri, and leads to Jigok-ri Gosugol Valley.
It got the name because it was a part of a castle wall.
It belongs to one of the ‘top’ demanding trails of Cheongpungho Jadeurak Trail.
It is also a ‘top’ place for fun and satisfaction because you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and a variety of plants and trees in harmony. You’d better take a rest and prepare for the trail
because there is no toilet or water fountain until Daburam Hermitage, which is the middle point of Seongbyeok-Trail.

Oksunbong Rest Area

From Oksunbong Rest Area, cross Oksundaegyo Bridge while enjoying thrilling Cheongpungho Lake. It gives you a different excitement from what you get by driving over the bridge by car.
Get out of Oksundaegyo Bridge and walk along for 5 minutes, to see a path on the hill to the left. From there, the real Seongbyeok-Trail starts.
You will meet a forest so dense that you cannot see the sky.
Along the path you can see little club-mosses as well as Montane aster and columbine meadow rues besides them.

Goegok-ri

‘People even say a substantial number of ginseng diggers found wild ginseng on Seongbyeok-Trail. It shows that the mountain path, full of the smell of grass, is virtually untouched and unpolluted.
A steep hill becomes a pleasant path, and on the east you can see Cheongpungho Lake.
The path lives up to the name ‘Jadeurak Trail’ with a twisted path on a low hill.
A 20 minute walk takes you to a big empty field. It is clear that somebody has cleared up over-grown weeds and tree branches.
Sure enough, it will be a rest area in August and the basic work has been completed. Here comes the uphill path again.
Be careful not to touch the lacquer trees on the path. There are some messy holes where wild hogs might have taken a mud bath. Carry on walking while avoiding the holes.

The second empty field will welcome you with deep sunset-colored trumpet lilies.
It is also under construction to become an observatory and rest place. Walk for 10 more minutes, then climb to the north to get to the place being developed as a ‘Photogenic Attraction’ by Jecheon.
Upon arrival you can get a view of Cheongpungho with its long and immense body at a glance.
Because of the rain, dirt water makes Cheongpungho Lake more like an inland sea. Walk back on the path you took and take the downhill road on the left.
There will be fresh polygonatum (Polygonatum stenophylum) fields along the path.

Daburam Hermitage

This pass (Dabuljaegil), which heads towards Daburam Hermitage, connects to Dabul-ri. Dabuljae gives off the sentiment feel of a calm and modest village.
People here call Dabul-ri the ‘first village under the sky’ because it is a humble village with small houses.
On the top of the Dabuljae is Daburam Hermitage. Daburam Hermitage is the middle point of Seongbyeok-Trail and has a return path to take you to Oksundaegyo Bridge.
It is an easy path where you can drive on. If you feel too tired, you can take the path to return home.

On the south of Daburam Hermitage there is a path around the foot of Samusan Mountain (478m) that serves as an option for Seongbyeok-Trail where you can enjoy the great view and various attractions.
You will pass the Zen meditation room of the painter Jang Useong on Hwapilbong Peak of Dumusan Mountain, the tiger´s den where legends say a tiger lived, and Chotdaebawi Rock, which is uniquely shaped like a candle stick with white wax dripping down.
The most impressive view can be enjoyed from the observatory where you can see the sunrise. Woraksan Mountain and Sobaeksan Mountain are layered in harmony to show a magnificent view.
It is an incredible view that you can’t normally enjoy from a mountain that isn’t even 500m tall. You can see there why people call Dabul-ri the ‘first village under the sky’

Gosugol Valley

Return to Daburam Hermitage and climb towards Gosugol Valley. Pass thorny bushes and wild polygonatums fields that reach even higher than the waist of an adult on the continuing Seongbyeok-Trail.
You will meet a variety of plants and trees on the path from Daburam Hermitage to Jigok-ri Gosugol Valley.
There you will meet some forest shades and open paths on the slope. Sometimes you have to go through irritating midsummer bushes but the path has a unique charm that shows a different view.
Walk along for an hour, then you will reach 403bong Peak. Walk for 15 minutes more from there, you will be in the Forest Trail. You can smell fresh summer fragrance from small and big fields along the path.
During the time you are led around by the influence of the landscape, Seongbyeok-Trail allows you to reflect on the meaning of true communication.
Trekking is booming these days and there are many trekking paths all over. But among them ‘Goegokseongbyeok-Trail’ stands out.
For your information, there are plans to operate a boat path between a mooring near Nameori and Oksunbong Rest Area.
