Meeting Plaza

Jakeundongsan-gil starts from the ‘Meeting Plaza’ of Cheongpung-myeon. Before embarking on a serious trek, visitors can meet the sorrows of the people from submerged areas. 61 villages and 3,031 houses from 5 myeons (townships) here were submerged in 1985 due to the construction of Chungju Dam to supply water to major cities. The lake was created as a result and 64% of the lake belongs to Jecheon. Here you can enjoy the beautiful scenery.

만남의 장소 만남의 탑

At the center of the plaza there is a monument for the people of the submerged areas and a copper plate showing the former appearance of Cheongpung-myeon. Here the visitors think of the submerged areas before appreciating the beautiful lake view. It signals the start of a meaningful walk instead of a light and carefree one.

If you feel too emotional and downbeat, walk along the road nearby leading to the Sculpture Park. You will feel instantly cheerful when you see the various forms of lively sculptures. Together with music coming from far-away Cheongpung Lake Art Hall, the road suddenly becomes a quiet art gallery.

Lake Hotel

For going to the next course, take National Road 82 at the entrance of Lake Hotel, where Cheongpungho Walkway ends, and move down towards Cheongpung Resort. There, the walkway seems to end briefly, but a different and somewhat rough yet cute and funny valley trekking path will be available. Consider it as a warm up to change the mood.
As you walk down the road for 5 minutes, you will arrive at the parking area at the entrance of Cheongpung Resort. Walk up along the left bank to find road signs indicating the Jakeundongsan Trail. There are also lots of little signs on the trees. From this point is a mountain trail smelling of dirt, grasses, and tress. As the trek gets steeper, you’d better be ready to sweat a bit.

Upon arriving at Jakeundongsan-gil, the mood changes completely. If you are not accustomed to the change, then you’ll find yourself panting as you climb up the hill. The path may be harder than it was at the beginning, but that’s fine. Your entire body will welcome and breathe in the fresh air and the clear water in the valley. You will feel fresh and purified from your stressful and tiring city life. Climb up for 10 minutes on the mountain path, and a forest trail connecting to Gyo-ri will show up. Jakeundongsan-gil leads to the upper side alongside the valley. The hard trail reverts to an easy walkway again as it becomes a wide path on a gentle hill.

Morae Pass

After 10 minute-walk, the forest trail will be over at the road sign with the words ‘JageunDongsan 2.3km’ written on it. From there the mountain path starts. After having warmed up until now, you will be light of foot. Walking for 1 hour will take you to a small hill named ‘Morae Pass’. The original name was Keunjae, which literally means a ‘Big Pass’ in Korean. You have to go through three passes to go from Hakhyeon Village to Gyo-ri. The nearest pass from Hakhyeong Village is ‘the first pass’, the next one is ‘the middle pass’ and the last one is ‘Keunjae (Morae Pass).’

JageunDongsan

Keunjae connects Dongsan Mountain (896m) and JageunDongsan (545m) together. People from Jecheon and hikers from nearby areas climb on Dongsan Mountain following a magnificent ridge and then pass through Morae Pass go to JageunDongsan. Because of that, Morae Pass is full of hikers who want to take a break during weekends. It is 0.64 km from there to JageunDongsan. If you walk slowly, it takes 10 minutes by foot. JageunDongsan is also popular because you can hike on it easily and enjoy the great sight of Cheongpungho Lake.
assing the summit, as you follow the ridge in the direction of Gyo-ri, you will enjoy the splendid view.

Hakhyeon Village- Chwijeokdae Heights
- Neungganggyo Bridge

Jakeundongsan-gil leads to Hakhyeon Village from Morae Pass. After going through the the middle pass and the first pass via the valley, you will reach the village’s forest trail. Hakhyeon means Crane Pass. A long time ago, a crane came down and turned into a rock on Geumsubong Peak, which is to the southeast of Hakhyeon. The village was named as Hakhyeong because the crane rock is located in the village.

An asphalt road from Hakhyeon-ri takes you to the last course, Neungganggyo Bridge. It might be a bit boring but you can look around some main attractions of Jecheon like Hakhyeong-ri Student Camping Site, Eumbawi Rock, and Chwijeokdae Heights.
